How do you feel when THAT number comes up on caller ID?

I’m in search of the perfect website team.  A team that understands my laptop bag goals, designs simply yet beautifully and programs flawlessly.  But what I’m really, really looking for is a partner who passes the Caller ID Test.

What’s the Caller ID Test?  Quite simply, when I see their number pop up on my phone, how do I feel?  Am I filled with dread and apprehension?  Do I think about letting the call go to voicemail?  Do I get a knot in my stomach?

If a partner passes the Caller ID Test I see their number and can’t answer the phone fast enough.  I’m anxious to hear about their new idea, a solution to a nagging problem or what they did over the weekend.  I’m quick to recommend them to anyone and proud of the work we do together.

That’s the all important Caller ID Test.  Try it on your partners/team members/potential life partner.

So far, I’ve contacted six different groups. Three here in Charleston, one in Austin, one in Philadelphia and one in Brooklyn.  Some have asked me questions, some have given me quotes, one already told me they don’t to e-commerce and one hasn’t called me back.  (It doesn’t look good for that one!)

It’s an extremely important choice.  I look forward to sharing my choice with you…and seeing their number come up on my caller ID.

Love Branding = Need Designer

Branding is important to me.  My background is in marketing and I’ve spent entire days making sure “it’s the right color green”.  I’m obsessed with fonts.  And, of course, I started this business with marketing.  (Yes, this is backwards.)

Once I realized this business was going to be real, one of the first things I did was work on the logo.  Why?  It’s the easy part.

It had to be feminine, but not girly.  I had to love the font.  The color had to be salmon.  Or yellow.  Or not black or royal blue.

Much to my delight a designer I love agreed to work with me.  After hearing all my concerns, she not only came up with a logo, she came up with this Style Guide.  When the PDF came in my inbox I even squealed and clapped.

This blog was delayed because I didn’t like the design I came up with on my own.  It looked, well, janky.  Once again, my designer came to my rescue.  She made several lovely designs – click here to see the first set.

My designer is coming to Charleston at the end of the month.  We’ll eat some tasty food, visit the beach and talk about the merits of several worthy fonts.  Look for another design update in September – you can bet more squealing will be involved.
